Merlin meets HMRC legislative requirements
Merlin ® Software has now received written confirmation from HMRC that its new Merlin® Charity Shop software module meets all current legislative requirements for the processing of Gift Aid on Donated Goods.
The system calculates Gift Aid on goods donated to charity shops by UK taxpayers, allowing charities to reclaim an additional 28p in the pound on top of the selling price for each item. This can have dramatic effects on any charity’s income without any increase in turnover.
An audit was carried out on May 13th to confirm that the system complies with all current UK tax regulations, with the auditor commenting that in his opinion it was “by far the most sophisticated and comprehensive system he had seen and yet it remained so simple to use”.
The Merlin® Software team believes that this module is totally unique to the Charity Shop market maintaining that it is the only fully integrated, multi-faceted retail management system that meets all current legislative requirements. They also consider that this situation will further the systems already considerable success in the Charity Sector, where it has been used and audited for a number of years now.
Sales Director Owen Gleadall said of the approval, “we are delighted that our software now meets all legislative requirements as it gives us the opportunity to ensure that any charity with a shop can claim maximum benefit from all the items donated to them. Charity shops have become more commercially aware and by using this new software module it gives them an additional source of income without any need to increase sales. Any charity can now install our system in the knowledge that it carries a letter of confirmation from HMRC. I am also aware that some charities are using systems for the reclamation of Gift Aid that haven’t been audited and it is worth bearing in mind that any charity that makes an incorrect claim may have to repay any monies already claimed. From our point of view, it’s just great that charities can make even more money for such good causes in such a simple and effective way in the full knowledge that the system satisfies all relevant criteria!
We also guarantee that as long as the Charity Shop uses the full process contained in our Merlin® Charity Shop module they will be able to recover the Gift Aid from the proceeds of the sale of all goods donated by UK taxpayers.
