In November 2013, the Sultanate of Oman issued a royal decree to establish the National Museum of Oman, exploring the rich heritage of their country, and functioning as a world-class learning centre and a foundation for scientific and historical studies. We were contacted in the early stages of development to coordinate the front of house development.
During our visits to the museum site, we worked alongside Omani government officials to identify the requirements for this leading visitor attraction, and worked alongside site managers to coordinate the installation of a bespoke configuration of Merlin.
Our implementation included three pairs of electronically controlled barriers, which function as an unmanned access control system. Tickets purchased within the foyer, or from any number of remote terminals can be scanned at the barrier to allow entry. The ticketing kiosks we introduced were custom built for purpose, and included full integration with the National Bank of Oman to allow card payments by local residents. Our work was completed on-time and on-budget, with representatives on-hand throughout the development. As a result of our management, admission to the National Museum of Oman is now a secure, scalable and cost-effective unmanned operation.
